Against Rouhani’s presence in UN General Assembly on 25 September
Tweet Storm for Thursday September 25the 2014
The 69th General Assembly of the United Nation has started in New York this week. Hassan Rouhani, the Islamic regime’s president, will also attend the assembly on 25 September. His presence should raise serious questions as to why is he allowed to speak in the general assembly? You may ask why not?
The answer is simple. Rouhani should not be allowed to attend such an assembly because he is the president of a regime that has been massacring people in Iran for more than three decades. Since he has been the president:
- He has ordered execution of more than 700 prisoners in Iran
- He has continued banning any demonstrations in any cities in Iran
- He has continued arresting and harassing women in Iran. Women are still banned from attending sport stadium and they are deprived of their basic rights.
- He has brutally suppressed workers’ right to strike and imprisoned those who protest
- Has continued arresting and torturing thousands of people in Iran including university students, workers, teachers, lawyers, artists, religion minorities, bloggers and writers.
Roya Saberinejad, a 48-year-old Iranian-British woman, has been sentenced 20 years in prison for posting anti-regime comments on her Facebook. She is still in prison
Ghoncheh Ghavami, a 25-year-old Iranian woman, was arrested while trying to enter the Azadi sports stadium in Tehran to watch men’s volleyball game. She is still in prison
Soheil Arabi, 30-year-old Iranian blogger has been sentenced to death for “insulting the prophet” on Facebook.
Six young Iranian men and women whom were arrested for appearing in a video dancing to song “Happy” have been sentenced to up to one year in prison and 91 lashes
These are only few examples of what Rouhani’s regime has done. There are thousands of men and women who are in prison for expressing their political and social views on different matters.
