Letter from political prisoners in in support of jailed labour activist Behnam Ebrahimzadeh

The condemnation of the treatment of Behnam Ebrahimzadeh by a group of political prisoners in Iran

We condemn the added prison sentence for Behnam Ebrahimzadeh by the Islamic courts

We received news that Behnam Ebrahimzadeh, a political prisoner, who was close to completing his 4 year sentence for his human rights activities, including children’s and workers rights, was tried a second time and sentenced to an additional nine and half years on newly vague charges. His new sentence is to be served in full and does not account for time already served. Mr. Ebrahimzadeh has a child who suffers from cancer.

In light of this issue, the violent attack on political prisoners in Ward 350 of Evin in April 2014 by security forces must be mentioned. After the prisoners were seriously beaten, a large number were transferred to solitary confinement with no medical treatment for their injuries, for extended periods of time. The prisoners were then disbanded and transferred to various wards pf Gohardasht prison where blogger Khosro Khosravi was subsequently hanged. Mr. Ebrahimzadeh was kept in solitary longer than other prisoners.

The new nine and half year sentence was added to Mr. Ebrahimzadeh’s sentence in an illegal and unfair trial without evidence, witnesses or presentation. It appears that the regime is reacting to international pressure for its nuclear program and to general social and economical criticism inside Iran by eliminating its political opponents by perhaps adding years to their existing sentences or executing them, to show its citizens that it is still in control and fully in power.

We would like the human rights organizations around the world to speak even louder on the behalf of us–political prisoners in Iran who have been sentenced in illegal, unfair trials for which no one has ever been held accountable.

Signed by following prisoners in RajaeeShahr prison in Iran:

Farid Azemoodeh, Reza Akbari Monfared, Afshin Baymani, Mohammed Jarahi, Iraj Hatami, Khaled Hardani, Afshin Heiratian, Shahrokh Zamani, Saeed Dhirzad, Heshmatollah Tabarzadi, Alireza Farahani, Abolghasem Fouladvand, Saleh Kohandel, Saeed Masouri, Yadollah Hadi, Meysagh Yazdan-nejad
